The season started strong for WKU, with the team recently wrapping up two weekends filled with tournament action on the road. They left a lasting impression, especially at the Cardinal Clash tournament held in Troy, Alabama, where they showcased their skills with a remarkable 5-0 record over the weekend. It’s no wonder the upcoming matches at home have the community buzzing with anticipation!

Home Sweet Home

The team’s home opener is set for February 23, as they take on Gardner-Webb in the Hilltopper Classic. Recognition and Honors Galore

On top of all the excitement, the Lady Hilltoppers celebrated some notable achievements recently. The Conference USA announced its Softball Players of the Week, recognizing WKU with both Pitcher of the Week and Freshman of the Week accolades.

Leading the charge was Rylan Smith, a sophomore right-hander, whose stellar performance during the tournament earned him the Pitcher of the Week title. He tossed a jaw-dropping 10.2 innings while only allowing one earned run, which translates to an impressive 0.84 ERA. Adding to that, he recorded a team-high of nine strikeouts, making it tough for opponents as they managed only a .184 batting average against him.

Freshman utility player Macy Gregor also shone bright by clinching the Freshman of the Week recognition. With a remarkable .500 batting average across five games and four RBIs, she proved to be a key player for her team. Her crowning moment came with a thrilling game-winning walk-off single against Alabama State, which surely had the crowd buzzing!
